(L-R) Sr. Anne Marie Graham of St. Vincent’s College, PriMed Dr. Kaberi Chanda, Sharon Coleman Bosse, RN, St. Vincent’s (the nurse who nominated Dr. Chanda) and Director of Physician Services Laura Flavell, St. Vincent’s.

PriMed is proud to announce that Internal Medicine Physician Dr. Kaberi Chanda has received the St. Vincent’s Medical Center Values Recognition Award at a ceremony held at the hospital on September 27, 2012.  St. Vincent’s presented this special commendation to Dr. Chanda for her exemplary act of kindness towards a patient, demonstrating respect and compassion for the dignity of her patient and affirming her dedication as a physician in the care of patients, core values of St. Vincent’s.

Dr. Chanda’s gesture of kindness came on February 25, 2012 at 10:15 p.m. when an 83 year-old patient of hers was admitted to St. Vincent’s hospice care.  A bitter cold evening, Dr. Chanda left her home to see the patient saying, “I had to come in to be with her.”  Dr. Chanda held the patient’s hand, stroked her head and whispered in her ear showing concern and compassion for both the woman and the woman’s daughter during a difficult time.

“St. Vincent’s is blessed to have doctors like Dr. Chanda providing such compassionate care. She embodies our mission, vision and values and is an integral part of what makes St. Vincent’s such a respected and special place,” said Bill Hoey, St. Vincent’s Vice President of Mission Services and Ethics.

The St. Vincent’s Values Recognition Award, eligible by nomination, celebrates an individual, team or department for doing a very special, one time act of kindness that is considered above and beyond work responsibilities and benefits another person, patient, fellow employee or the community.
